Sphere Spotlight — Maria Eleonora Ferreira Bailey
We at Sphere are excited to start introducing you to some of our amazing members in a new series, Sphere Spotlight. First up, meet Maria Eleonora Ferreira Bailey, a Bay Area Holistic Career Coach. Maria comes to us across the Bay to call Sphere her “dream office”. Read on to learn more about her!
Sphere: Welcome, Maria! Thank you for taking the time to hang out with us! So, do you live in Oakland?
Maria: No, I actually live in the sunset in San Francisco!
Sphere: Oh wow, what brought you out to Sphere in Oakland?
Maria: I don’t remember exactly how I found out about Sphere, but I thought this place was gorgeous and I had to come to check it out. When I walked in I knew this was it, this was exactly what I was looking for. I’m telling my friends I’m working from a co-working space that came out of my Pinterest board. I cross the bridge happily like “ah I’m going to my office”.
Sphere: So you come in from the city! Where are you from originally?
Maria: I’m from Brazil. I’ve been living in the U.S. for about seven years now. I’m from São Paulo. Seven years ago I used my education as an excuse to come out here. I was just really lost and looking for something new and thought “you know what, I’m going to move to San Francisco, I think that would be cool”.
Sphere: What do you love about the Bay Area?
Maria: I love the diversity you can find in the Bay Area. Diversity is something I didn’t find much of in Brazil. It still surprises me and makes me so happy to see that people are so different, but at the same time, they are accepted. Of course, we are still working on this, but it is very different from where I come from! The other thing I love is the sense of community. It was definitely a very new thing for me. I had a sense of family in Brazil, but not exactly community. It is such a beautiful thing, it makes me feel like I belong.
Sphere: Where do you find your community?
Maria: Here! *laughs* Also, I choose my community, right? So, the yoga studio, the gym— where I see that I resonate with people is where I choose community. And you know, when I don’t find it I build my own community!
Sphere: What do you do for work?
Maria: I am a holistic career coach. I work with spiritual people who have a corporate job to find more confidence in their goals and to figure out how they can work on their mission inside of a company.
Sphere: That sounds incredible. What part of your job are you most passionate about?
Maria: Everything! It is exactly where I want to be. Watching transformation is so magical. To see someone that is hurting or lost begins to blossom. *sighs* it’s so beautiful. Transformation, it’s something I am honored and proud to work in.
Sphere: What advice do you have for a young person who wants to be a holistic career coach?
Maria: Ask for help. You are not alone. Ask for help. I think this is the most important piece of advice. When you ask for help, it’s easier to keep going, it’s easier to believe in yourself. You don’t have to do it all alone.
Sphere: I feel like I know the answer to this because you have been glowing this whole time, but what conversation topics make you light up?
Maria: I like to say that I’m addicted to self-development. I can geek out on conversations about self-development in so many ways. Yoga, nutrition, spirituality, coaching—it’s my jam.
Sphere: Do you have any goals for the next year?
Maria: No goals for the next year. I am trying to stay present as much as possible this year. It was a mistake I had most of the years before this one, to live in the future. I am living in the present. It’s been great!
Sphere: Lastly, what do you want Sphere to know about you, or what do you wish more people knew about you?
Maria: That they can come to me as a friend and as someone who will support them on any level, as long as I am capable.
