Mia Birdsong is a community curator, and storyteller, and author of the upcoming book, How We Show Up, which is about how we make family and community. In her work on guaranteed income as Senior Fellow of the Economic Security Project, she taps into the voices and visions of low-income people to re-imagine the American social contract. Mia was an inaugural Ascend Fellow and a New American California Fellow.
Vanessa Hua is a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle and the author of a novel, A River of Stars, and a short story collection, Deceit, and Other Possibilities. For two decades, she has been writing about Asia and the diaspora. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and elsewhere. A Bay Area native, she works and teaches at the Writers Grotto in San Francisco.
